A graduate of the University of Denver, where he received his B.S.B.A. and J.D. degrees, Mr. Collins has been practicing law since 1986.
Prior to joining TAM, Mr. Collins had already developed a broad-based practice in civil litigation matters, including employment law, professional liability, products liability, insurance coverage and bad-faith defense, commercial, trucking, civil rights law, insurance broker liability, and governmental entity defense. Since joining TAM in 1996, he has expanded his practice both in scope and client base due to his industry reputation.
As lead for the Trucking/Motor Carrier Litigation practice group, Paul regularly spearheads regional defense litigation for a number of regional and national common carriers, including Swift Transporation Co., Inc.; Schneider National, Inc.; Knight Transportation; and Prime, Inc. Paul leverages his broad experience in every conceivable aspect of common carrier litigation to inform his frequent industry speaking engagements, client presentations, and trade association activities.
Not limited to vehicles with GVWR over 19,500 pounds, Paul also has significant experience in products liability cases representing automobile manufacturers, including years on a German manufacturer's American litigaiton team defending injury suits arising out of a specific design defect claim. Working in tandem with counsel and executives from the German corporate headquaters, Paul's team successfully defended these claims on behalf fo the manufacturer.
Paul's practice extends to decades of coverage work, from opinions to bad faith and declaratory actions, on behalf of several national insurance carriers admitted in Colorado and elsewhere. He not only provides coverage litigation counsel, but frequently advises carrier clients on navigating policy language through state and federal regulations to avoid compliance issues on specimen forms.
Mr. Collins is State Co-Chair of the Council on Litigation Management, a preeminent insurance defense industry alliance committed to furthering the highest standards of litigation management. He is a member of the American, Colorado, Denver, and Heart of the Rockies Bar Associations, Defense Research Institute, TIDA, and the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association.
